Agelio Batle

The investigative nature of Agelio Batle’s work more than likely comes from his interest in science and nature. As sculptor- inventor, he extracts the extraordinary from the ordinary to find epiphany in mundane materials and poetry in the pedestrian. “I try to manipulate materials in ways that no one has yet tried,” Agelio says. As with his Graphite Objects, Batle takes a substance with which everyone is familiar, yet one that breeds disorientation and surprise by the way he uses it. Graphite is a very pedestrian material, but if you look at it closely, he says, it has a beautiful luster or shine. Agelio takes this very ordinary element and elevates it to something a bit more sublime. It could be said that he reaches into the soul of earthly objects and virtually pulls them inside out revealing something beautifully new and unexpected. “My role as an artist is to allow people to see, again, things that they may have otherwise missed,” he says.
