Allen Davis believes that art can and should be combined with functionality. “My work has value because I focus on function,” he says. “Creating artful, one-of-a-kind items from nature’s bounty with a utilitarian purpose seems to be the best of both worlds – practical, yet beautiful works of art.” A self-taught woodworker, Davis travels the country to acquire raw materials for his craft. His segmented pieces have become his signature. “When designing a precision-cut pattern, I like to incorporate as many wood species as possible to lend complexity with balance and symmetry,” he says. Each unique vessel reflects his evolving style with new color, pattern and textural variety. “Many people purchase my pieces as useful keepsakes for loved ones who appreciate wood and the creative process,” he says.
