For ceramic artist Cynthia Vardhan, defying simple categorization is what her life's work in pottery is all about.  Her handmade porcelain pieces not only elegantly serve a function in the home or office, but also stand on their own as artful decor.  Drawing on influences that range from Indian henna, to European & American confectionery design, to African & Indonesian textile patterns, Cynthia has crafted a ceramic decorating style all her own.  Her complex surfaces brim with detailed and varied piping patterns. Combined with the translucent nature of her pottery (the result of a proprietary porcelain that she mixes herself), Cynthia's riveting work begs to be touched and studied.  Cynthia throws all her own work, on the wheel in her Columbus, Ohio studio.
